Built in 1908, the church is a monumental stone building in the Russian style with 6 towers. The foundation of the building was laid in 1906 on July 18. The new building was consecrated on November 2, 1908, by father Fyodor Nikonovich. This magnificent and grandiose church is now considered to be the best Orthodox building of this kind in Latvia both in terms of architecture and artistic decoration.

The church was built in the shape of a cross with 6 towers, its size is 29x 17.5 x 13.3 m. Especially good is the interior with a beautiful iconostasis dating from around 1907, which covers silver and gold plated metal plates with an embossed vintage pattern. All icons in the iconostasis were written by academician N. Verhoturov. The church floor is made of cement-colored tiles.

In the 30s of the 20th century, the Vecslabadas church was the largest Orthodox village community in Latvia. The church is under state protection.
