The nature reserve “Pilskalnes Siguldiņa” (59.3 ha) is located in a picturesque valley carved by the melting waters of glaciers. This area has been designated as a nature reserve since 2003 when it was included in the “NATURA 2000” list of protected areas of European significance.

In the nature reserve, 11 habitats of European importance, 21 rare or protected plant species, and 7 rare or protected moss species have been identified. The lakes and lake shores are rich in plant diversity. Several exciting walking and educational trails have been established in the reserve.

Clay pottery fragments, as well as other evidence, have been discovered in this area. Archaeological findings indicate the presence of Baltic tribes. The cultural layer and the high proportion of charcoal in the hill’s soil along the Dubupīte River bank may have contributed to its name – the Black Mountain.

In the nature reserve, there are several marked nature trails.
