The museum of Francis Trasuns “Kolnasāta”

The exhibition about the Latvian Catholic priest, politician, initiator of the Congress of Latvians of Latgale Francis Trasun, as well as other thematic expositions. The exhibitions are presented in Latgalian, Latvian and Russian. Short descriptions of the exhibits are available in English, German and Russian.

The museum of Francis Trasuns „Kolnasāta” was founded in 1992 in order to preserve and promote the memory of pastor, politician, cultural and social worker Francis Trasuns (1864–1926), his family and contemporaries, as well as historical evidence of the region.

Visitors are offered the following exhibitions:

  • “The life and work of Francis of Trasuns”;
  • exhibition of the permanent collection “Ancient household items”;
  • exposition of Latgale farm-yard – residential house, brick stables, a bathhouse, a barn, an orchard and avenue of limes;
  • the crucifixion and the well created by Antons Rancāns.

 

Visitors can use the fire pit, canopy with seats, swings. Those who wish can get acquainted with the unique objects of the collection: a family relic – dishes, a working gramophone; a chest for a dowry of the 19th century, a collection of Latgale shawls, etc. Visitors are offered the following museum and educational programs: “Ancient household items”, “Along the paths of Francis’ childhood”, “Baking Christmas gingerbreads”, and also a popular program “Wedding in Latgale”, which with folk songs is complemented by the folk group “Kolnasāta”. The museum is located in Rēzekne municipality.

 

Working time:
on weekdays: 8.00 – 16.30
on Saturdays from May 1 to October 1: 10.00 – 16.00
Sunday – day off

Prices: 1 Eur / adults, 0,70 Eur / children, seniors
The staff speaks Latvian, Russian.
