The House of Traditions is a cultural space dedicated to preserving and promoting the values of traditional culture. By engaging in hands-on activities, workshops, and educational sessions, visitors can explore and experience Latvian folk traditions.
Traditional seasonal celebrations are held here, along with craft workshops, exhibitions, folk music instrument lessons, and seminars on Latvian traditions, celebrations, games, and dances. The House of Traditions also hosts traditional dance evenings, discussion events, and conversations on the preservation and transmission of intangible cultural heritage. Visitors are also invited to discover elements of culinary heritage.
A permanent exhibition on Crafts and Traditional Way of Life is available for visitors. The exhibition is dedicated to the world of a Latgalian homestead – a place where daily life, work, and family traditions unfolded through the seasons. It offers a contemporary perspective on ancient craft skills, allowing visitors to explore them through visual elements, sound, hands-on activities, and interactive storytelling. At the heart of the exhibition is an interactive installation that allows visitors to choose which stories to follow – about farm work, the rhythm of the seasons, or craft skills that have shaped the cultural identity of Latgale across generations.
The House of Traditions regularly hosts workshops, masterclasses, and other events. Advance registration for activities is required – +371 29461765.
