Livani region is rich in the traditions of weaving and professional weavers. The idea of combining weaving activities came to the scientist Janis Pujats during the expedition at Latgale’s weavers in the late ’60s. The idea was brought to life by Monica Mancinska in 1972 with an exhibition of works by local weavers and craftswomen. The club was given a resounding name in honor of the river Dubna.

In 1979 the Ministry of a culture of the Latvian SSR gave “Dubna” the name of the Folk Applied Arts Studio. Baskets of yarns, blankets started to be weaved, linen tablecloths, carpet runners are the weavers’ daily routine. In the Folk Applied

Arts Studio “Dubna” preserve and develop the ancient traditions of weaving, study ancient hieroglyphics characteristic of Latgale, weaving them in modern textiles. Over the years, along with a generational change new and new mistresses join the team. We invite you to participate in the tour “Curly wool needs to be done straight” where you will learn how from a sheep you can get patterned socks that warm you in the cold winter months.

Entrance for donations.
