The Krāslava District Museum is located in the former servants’ house of the palace complex at Pils Street 8. In the renovated stable building at Pils Street 10, there are two exhibitions, two open storage collections, and an exhibition hall.

The museum’s collection contains 27,000 items that reflect the distinctiveness and uniqueness of the Krāslava region from ancient times to the present day. These include archaeological artefacts, a large collection of ethnographic items, documents, photographs, valuable books from the 18th–19th centuries, and other collections regularly displayed in the museum’s thematic exhibitions. The museum’s art collection includes more than 1,000 works of fine art by artists such as Pāvils Glaudāns, Vanda Zēvalde, Vitālijs Kalvāns, Jāzeps Pīgoznis, Osvalds Zvejsalnieks, Inta and Kārlis Dobrāji, Pēteris Postažs, Valda Mežbārde, Leonīds Bauliņš, Valentīns Zlidnis, Daiga Lapsa, Nadīna Lavrecka, and others. A new art exhibition is presented in the exhibition hall every two months. Exhibitions of works by Krāslava artists have become a tradition. Visitors can also explore thematic historical exhibitions.

The museum offers SEVEN permanent exhibitions:

  • “Five Oars” – a unique exhibition set in a 17-metre-long improvised boat, telling the story of the coexistence of five different nationalities in the Krāslava region.
  • Interior exhibition “The Office of Count Plater’s Notary”.
  • A NEW multimedia exhibition “CODE OF WOOD. Values of Krāslava’s Wooden Architecture”.
  • “At One Table” – presenting the culinary traditions of the five main nationalities of Krāslava.
  • “The Workshop of Artist Valentīns Zlidnis” – dedicated to the colourful Latgalian painter Valentīns Zlidnis.
  • Open storage “The Legacy of Vanda Zēvalde”.
  • Exhibition “The Story of an Old House” – an open storage display showing how a house functioned from the late 19th century to the 1970s.

Visitors can explore thematic exhibitions on the history of the Krāslava region and view displays from the museum’s collections. A new art exhibition is presented in the exhibition hall every quarter. Autumn exhibitions of Krāslava artists have become a tradition.
