“House of Treasures of the Free State” is a cultural venue located on the banks of the Rēzekne River, right next to the ancient hillfort. It was created to gather and make accessible to the public information about the military and civil awards of Latvia’s first period of independence, as well as various organizations connected to the activities of the state and civic society from the Latvian War of Independence to the Second World War.
The exhibition hall displays several hundred historical artifacts from private collections in Latvia and abroad, covering the period from 1918 to 1940, with a particular focus on the history of Latgale and Rēzekne.
The exhibition is designed according to the latest contemporary trends – visitors can virtually try on medals and interact with digital displays. The second floor is dedicated to rotating exhibitions, currently featuring paintings by Latgalian artists as well as landscapes depicting the Latgale region.
Outside of regular working hours, group visits are available by prior arrangement.
