The history of the Andrupene church begins with at least 18th century. There is not much information about the construction of the foundation of this building. This place is not mentioned in the list of Latgale parishes of 1715. Appears in the documents and in the list only in 1761, where it is possible to find a message that there was an oratorio – public prayer chapel. In the documents of 1855 is mentioned that the church has a register of the marriage and baptisms, which indicates an earlier date – a church or chapel of the 18th century that stood here. There is not much information about the fate of the temple of the 18th century, so we can not say with certainty that it was the same wooden building, which burned down in 1830 as a result of a lightning strike.

Instead of the church that burnt down, a temporary church was built in 1831. The temporary church did not exist for a long time, because then the representative of the ruling family Ignat Shadurskis as his property in 1849-1850, built the current stone church. Later the church building was repeatedly restored, a new roof was installed. The church is a significant monument of architectural heritage.
