The museum “Andrupene Rural Homestead” is a complex of 20th-century buildings. Visitors can explore a farmhouse built over 100 years ago, a granary, a traditional black bathhouse, a forge, as well as various tools and household items. By prior arrangement, guests can taste the “wonders” of Latgalian culinary heritage – kļockas, kuģelis, guļbešņīki, pancakes with cymuss, asuškas, cheese, butter, and herbal tea. Together with a folklore group, visitors can sing lively songs and dance traditional dances.

A visit to the museum takes you back to rural Latgale at the beginning of the 20th century. The hosts warmly welcome every visitor as a long-awaited guest. Here you can see a century-old farmhouse, a granary, a black bathhouse, tools, and household objects. With advance booking, you can enjoy traditional Latgalian dishes typical of the region, including kuģelis, guļbešņīki, pancakes with cymuss, asuškas, cheese, butter, herbal tea, and šmakovka. The hosts are also known for baking incredibly delicious homemade bread.

A cheerful atmosphere is ensured by the folklore group “Sovvaļnīki”, inviting guests to sing and dance while enjoying the sound of the Latgalian language.

To preserve traditional crafts, the museum features a blacksmith’s forge where visitors can observe the forging process, as well as a pottery workshop with a kiln. The firing and opening of the kiln is always a special event, and everyone is invited to the large kiln festivals in Andrupene.

This place is also popular for weddings, where newlyweds are welcomed with a special programme based on traditions and customs.

A cosy seminar room is set up in the granary. Behind the museum, there is an 800 m long bog trail with the scent of wild rosemary, red cranberries, and birdsong.

The museum is also a venue for open-air events, especially popular are the Midsummer (Jāņi) celebrations, when the courtyard becomes a stage for local and visiting amateur theatre performances.

Museum offers:

  • exhibition visits
  • Latgalian culinary heritage tastings
  • musical performances
  • wedding hosting
  • seminar and celebration facilities
  • workshops: pottery and cooking.
