In the island swamp, there is no bog, but there are several mineral islands, which in the form of hills rise to a height of 10 meters above the surroundings. The island swamp is located in the Lubāns wetlands seasonal reserve, therefore it is only available for visiting during the period from August 1 to November 1.

The island swamp is a diverse area in terms of biotopes and landscapes. If you look closely, you will see the insectivorous plant – Sundews. The Lubāns wetlands are also home to some several species of birds endangered in the world – Great snipe, Corn crake, White-tailed eagle, Osprey.

The route passes through protected natural areas, is not marked in nature and is not intended for walking without a special guide.

Recommendation – wear boots or ankle boots, so that the ankle can be attached to the shoes for passing through the snow/swamp. We recommend hiking boots with a reliable waterproof membrane or rubber boots.
