Klajumi – Horses. Nature. Flavours. Stories.

Nestled in the protected landscape of Augšdaugava and the Daugavas Loki Nature Park, just a short drive from Krāslava, Klajumi Countryside Cottages & Nature Retreat is a family-owned horse ranch with almost a century of history. Awarded the Latvian Heritage (Latviskais mantojums) label, Klajumi is a special place where horses, untouched nature, local flavours and countryside traditions come together.

More than just a horse ranch, Klajumi offers an authentic Latvian countryside experience – from horseback adventures and horse-drawn carriage rides to traditional cuisine, sauna rituals, nature walks and peaceful stays in cosy countryside cottages.

🐴 Horses & horseback adventures

The ranch is home to more than 10 carefully trained Latvian and Lithuanian Warmblood horses, known for their calm and gentle nature. They are suitable both for beginners with no previous riding experience and for experienced riders.

Guests can enjoy:

  • guided horseback rides through the forests, meadows and river valleys of the Daugavas Loki Nature Park;
  • 2–7 day horseback adventures through the Daugavas Loki Nature Park and the Latvian–Belarusian borderland, including a horse, equipment, guide-instructor, accommodation, meals and sauna;
  • horse-drawn carriage rides in summer and sleigh rides in winter;
  • horse-assisted activities, relaxation on horseback and therapeutic riding;
  • authentic horse camps for children and teenagers;
  • educational farm visits, school excursions, group programmes and corporate events.

🌿 Nature & unique experiences

Nature is an essential part of the Klajumi experience. Explore the unique “Mosquito Trail”, a nature walking route winding through forests and wetlands, or simply slow down and enjoy the peaceful countryside surroundings.

Throughout the year, Klajumi also hosts seasonal events, festivals, taste events and the annual horse and nature show “Kumeļu rotaļas”.

🏡 Stay in the countryside

Klajumi offers several accommodation options surrounded by peaceful countryside landscapes, making it an excellent base for exploring the Daugavas Loki Nature Park.

Guests can choose from:

  • Klajumu Ķemeri – a cosy holiday house for up to 8 guests, with four bedrooms, a fireplace and a traditional black/smoke sauna;
  • Klajumu Ganiņi – an accessible holiday house for up to 8 guests, also suitable for people with reduced mobility;
  • Klajumu Klēts – modern, air-conditioned apartments overlooking the countryside, located in the heart of the ranch;
  • Klajumu Krastos – accommodation for 4 guests on the banks of the Daugava, with a traditional black sauna;
  • other countryside accommodation options for couples, families and groups.

🍽️ Authentic Latgalian flavours

At the family restaurant Klajumu Ķēķis, guests can discover the flavours of Latgalian culinary heritage.

Homemade dishes are prepared using local ingredients and traditional recipes. Meals are available by prior reservation for individual guests, families, tourist groups and celebrations.

🔥 Traditional sauna experience

The Klajumi experience can be complemented by an authentic countryside sauna ritual, including traditional oak, linden or birch whisks and fragrant herbal infusions for the sauna stones.

💍 A carriage for unforgettable occasions

One of Klajumi’s most memorable experiences is a ride in an elegant restored carriage drawn by two magnificent horses. With its burgundy Italian leather interior and velvet-trimmed ceiling, the carriage is perfect for weddings, anniversaries, romantic celebrations, family occasions and photo sessions.

The carriage and horse escort can be arranged anywhere in Latvia or Lithuania, making this a truly special way to add a touch of countryside elegance to an important occasion.

🌾 A place to slow down

Klajumi is more than a horse ranch. It is a place to experience authentic Latvia – through horses, nature, food, traditions and stories.

Come for a horseback adventure, stay for the countryside tranquillity, taste traditional Latgalian flavours and leave with memories that last much longer than the journey home.
