In Pīterkolns, in the heart of Latgale, Imants and Dace Losāne run the household. Ceramic artworks are created by ceramist Dace Losāne and her father, Juris Papinovs.

Here, tradition meets modernity – centuries-old Latgalian pottery skills are combined with a creative approach and contemporary design. Each piece carries a story of clay’s journey from earth to fire.

The works are created both by hand-building and on a potter’s wheel, while the final stage is firing in a traditional Latgalian pit-type open-fire kiln, giving each piece its unique black tone and character.

In Pīterkolns, with a pre-booked visit, you can:

  • learn about the creation of reduced-firing (black) ceramics,
  • purchase ceramic works,
  • observe the pottery-making process
  • Pīterkolns offers workshops for both groups and individual visitors – an opportunity to discover Latgalian pottery traditions and create your own ceramic piece.
