Berzgale Catholic church is a national memorial site belonging to the oldest wooden churches of Latgale. The present-day foundation of the church was laid in 1744, the building works were accomplished in 1750, as St. Stephen and St. Laurus Church of God’s Protection. In the church, you can see 32 art monuments including the organ. The walls of the church were built from log cabins. The church gained its name from the nearby lake Berzgales.

The building was completed in 1750, and the church was consecrated in 1751 by Bishop Dominic de Kozelsky – Puzin. The church has changed little over time. The middle part is a large altar with beautiful Baroque carvings.
